Bringing STEAM to the MAINSTREAM--Update May 2017 Patsy Rausch, Teacher
I presented the project at my Fine Arts Quarterly Meeting in March to a room full of elementary art teachers who, in the beginning of the presentation, were completely unaware of my efforts and the potential outcomes. By the end of the presentation, I had complied a list of enthusiastic Art & STEAM teachers who wanted training and more specifics as to the kick-start date.
A Professional Learning date (March 29th) was set and attended by twenty Art & STEM teachers. The session was lead by Drew Matott, the Master Papermaker and inspiration for my Cobb Tank application. A second training is scheduled for September for interested Art, STEM, and Target teachers who could not attend the March 29th session.
My Cobb Tank funds are exhausted but the outpouring of support from the Cobb Fine Arts community has been amazing. I have had various teachers donate resources, purchase supplies, and even write grants to get this project off the ground!
I have been asked to speak on a panel at the nation papermaking conference scheduled for October here in Atlanta. I have also submitted to present at the 2018 NAEA convention in Seattle, Washington. The convention’s theme is Art + Design = STEAM
